How would you choose to find out about the movie?\n \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px; margin-left:15px\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>*<\/strong>Would you watch the trailer?<\/span><\/p> \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px; margin-left:15px\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>*<\/strong>Read an expert review in the paper or online?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px; margin-left:15px\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>*<\/strong>Ask a friend who has just seen the movie their opinion?<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Or perhaps you would do more than one?<\/span><\/p>\n  \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">The way we choose to learn and remember information can give us clues on the type of learning style that suits us best.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">This learning style preference can also change depending on the subject we are learning and our age. Our brain changes as we grow and mature.<\/span><\/p>\n \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Depending on whose research you read,  they\u2019ll tell you that there are  3 &#8211; 8 different learning styles.<\/span><\/p>\n \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">I choose to belong in the 7-learning style camp, and they are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Visual<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Auditory<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Verbal<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Kinaesthetic<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Logical<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Social\/Interpersonal<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; margin-left: 15px;\"><strong>Solitary\/Intrapersonal<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Researchers tell us that different parts of the brain are activated in these different learning styles as well.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Looking at these learning styles in more detail will help you to determine which learning style you have a preference for. \nLet\u2019s use the concept of learning the colours of the rainbow as an example to explain the different learning styles.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rainbow.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rainbow.png 400w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rainbow-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/rainbow-150x75.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Visual or Spatial learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>\n\n<\/p><p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">People who learn best this way like pictures, diagrams or videos. These learners have good spatial awareness, are good with maps and rarely get lost.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Visual learners would draw a rainbow and colour each section of the rainbow, to help them remember the colours.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Auditory or Aural learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Auditory learners like the use of rhymes or rhythm to help them remember things they are learning.<\/span><\/p> \n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">If you are an auditory learner, you may search the internet or make up your own mnemonic to remember the colours of the rainbow. Things like <strong><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #ff0000;\">R<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #f67b00;\">O<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #ffe200;\">Y<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">&#8211;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #5aaf7f;\">G<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">&#8211;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;\">B<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #6c00ff;\">I<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #8f00cd;\">V<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"> or <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #ff0000;\">R<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">ichard<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #f67b00;\"> O<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">f<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #ffe200;\"> Y<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">ork <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #5aaf7f;\">G<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">ave <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;\">B<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">attle <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #6c00ff;\">I<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">n <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #8f00cd;\">V<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">ain are common mnemonics found on the internet.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Verbal or linguistic learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>\n\n<\/p><p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">This type of learner does best with the spoken and written forms of language. These learners do well with the old fashion teaching style of\u2019 chalk and talk\u2019, using blackboards and printed handouts.<\/span><\/p> \n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Using our example, these learners would do best with worksheets or written text on the blackboard describing what a rainbow is and the colours that are present.<\/span><\/p> \n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px; margin-left: 25px\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Kinaesthetic or physical learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>\n\n\n<\/p><p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">A kinaesthetic learner needs to move to learn, they like physical movement and using their hands while learning.<\/span><\/p> \n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">When trying to remember the colours of the rainbow a kinesthetic learner might paint pieces of cardboard and place them on the floor.  They would then hop onto each coloured piece of cardboard saying the colours out loud in the correct order to help to cement the information into their long-term memory.<\/span><\/p> \n\n<center><p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1-1024x682.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12726\" width=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1-1024x682.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/cardboard-graphics-1.png 1625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><\/p><\/center>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Logical or mathematical learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">If you are a logical learner, you might like to understand the whole picture, using logic and reasoning.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Learning the colours of the rainbow for you might involve understanding how a rainbow is formed or recreating the breaking of light into its colours using a prism and a light source.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Social or interpersonal learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Some people like learning while being part of a group activity, these are the social learners. These learners like discussions, talking and working with other people doing group work.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">They would be chatting and manipulating words as a way of learning about rainbows.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Solitary or intrapersonal learners<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Those students who prefer independent study and working alone, are likely to be solitary learners.<\/span><\/p> \n\n<p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">When trying to remember the colours of the rainbow, these learners would rather work on their own, to investigate and understand the topic.<\/span>  \n<hr \/>\n<\/p><p style=\"margin-left: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">Whatever type of learner you are, you can always benefit from being exposed to other learning styles or strategies. Using multiple learning strategies within the classroom means that all students benefit from the teaching, not just those who learn in a particular way.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<center><div style=\"border: 0px solid #bbf8ef; background: #cae9f5; width: 90%; margin: 20px auto; line-height: 1.3; text-align: center; padding: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><p style=\"font-size: 160%;\">\u201cJust because a student prefers a particular learning style, doesn\u2019t mean they can\u2019t also enjoy and achieve with a different learning style.
