Today we are going to focus on just those accommodations that can be offered during tests and exams.<\/span><\/p>\n \n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">These can vary considerably but may include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol> \n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\"><strong>The extra provision of time.<\/strong> Your child may receive the extra provision of time to complete their tests and exams.<\/li>\n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>An alternative room.<\/strong> Your child may be able to sit tests and exams in an alternative room. This can mean they feel less pressured during exams or may be placed in a room where there is less noise and distraction.<\/li>\n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>A question reader and clarifier.<\/strong> A support teacher or aid may be provided to read and clarify questions for your child on tests and exams that don\u2019t pertain to reading skills.<\/li>\n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px;\"><strong>A scribe<\/strong> may be provided to write answers for your child in tests and exams.<\/li>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14286\" width=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/scribe.png 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>Reading aloud.<\/strong> Your child may be able to read aloud written questions and their answers on tests for sensory feedback.<\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>Reduced focus on spelling.<\/strong> This may mean students are not penalized with marks being deducted for spelling errors when spelling is not the focus of the evaluation.<\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>The ability to complete oral assessments.<\/strong><\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>The use of an electronic speller.<\/strong><\/li>  \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>The use of a laptop.<\/strong> They may be able to use a laptop to complete their exam work instead of writing by hand.<\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>They may be able to record their answers orally<\/strong> via a recording device instead of recording them in written form.<\/li>\n \n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>Changes to exam formats.<\/strong> Change the font size, paper colour and amount of text per page on written tests.<\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>Use software.<\/strong> Use voice recognition software for writing and print to speech software for reading text.<\/li> \n\n<li style=\"line-height: 30px; font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; padding-top: 10px\"><strong>Longer time frame.<\/strong> The student may be permitted to take the exam over a longer period. This may be at different time slots during the same day or over a few days.<\/li> \n<\/ol>\n\n<center><p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial; color: #3366ff;\"><em><strong>If you know of any others please comment below.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/center>\n\n<p style=\"padding-top: 10px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Arial;\">These accommodations should be organised and approved well before your son, daughter or student sits for any test and exams.
