This means the child may leave class to have access to a learning support teacher and a program that is intensive, direct, multisensory and systematic. Such programs can also be provided within a classroom setting as part of a classroom subject curriculum or by accessing a school computing device with a specific program made available. It is worth researching whether the programs and methods a school uses are evidence based, as some states in certain countries have a prerequisite for this to be the case.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2364\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/118-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/>A Modification<\/h2>\n<p>A modification refers to changes made to the year level curriculum to cater for a child such as;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/>Rewriting grade level expectations<\/li>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/>Reducing the number of curriculum expectations to be mastered<\/li>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/>Writing alternative expectations for a child<\/li>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/>Selecting expectations from a different grade level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"border: 1px solid #000000; padding: 10px; margin: 10px 0px; text-align: left; background-color: #eaf1dd;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; line-height: 25px;\">\u201cCurriculum modifications are not always appropriate. It is better to try and maintain grade level expectations and modify the environment or the response mode so that children can complete work at their intellectual level\u201d &#8211;\u00a0Dr. Paul Whiting<\/span><\/div>\n<h2>An Accommodation<\/h2>\n<p>An accommodation refers to any assistance that enables a child to access the grade appropriate curriculum or complete a grade and\/or subject level test, assessment or exam<br \/>\n.<br \/>\nAccommodations can vary considerably but may include:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/> The use of teaching methods deemed more appropriate for a child<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2365\" style=\"margin: 5px 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/214-300x253.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"240\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/> Extra personalised assistance in the school classroom provided by a teacher, teacher\u2019s assistant or qualified learning support provider.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/> The extra provision of time for a child to complete certain projects, tests and exams<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/green-checkmark-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"green checkmark\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/> The child may be able to sit tests and exams in an alternative area meaning they feel less pressure. In most cases standards are stated in Education Department legislation that can be found on department websites.
