{"id":4515,"date":"2014-11-29T14:01:59","date_gmt":"2014-11-29T14:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dyslexiadaily.com\/?p=4515"},"modified":"2026-05-01T05:21:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T05:21:17","slug":"london-bust-10yo-dyslexic-brisbane-author-uses-crowdfunding-take-work-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/london-bust-10yo-dyslexic-brisbane-author-uses-crowdfunding-take-work-world\/","title":{"rendered":"London or bust: 10yo dyslexic Brisbane author uses crowdfunding to take work to world"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"line-height: 29px; text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 29px; text-align: center;\">A 10-year-old dyslexic Brisbane boy has raised money through crowdfunding to travel to the London Book Fair.<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/aelen.jpg\" alt=\"aelen\" width=\"260\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/aelen.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/aelen-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Author Aedan Lias has self-published eight books despite having dyslexia, and aims to push his work to publishers in the UK next year.<\/p>\n<p>The Brisbane boy began fundraising on crowdfunding site Pozzible over a month ago, setting out to reach his $6,000 target to cover his travel overseas.<\/p>\n<p>He told 612 ABC Brisbane&#8217;s Rebecca Levingston that he wants to inspire others with dyslexia with his work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to get my books out there and if someone sees my books there they would say &#8216;that kid has done it&#8217; and then they would tell others,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I needed $6,000 to get there and I started a Pozzible campaign and I reached my target.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very excited and I cannot wait to get to London.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The suit-wearing schoolboy will set off with his father to London in April 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Aedan said he hoped he would get to meet some of his favourite authors while he was there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They get all the famous authors and publishers and they find books and proof them and get right behind you,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Aedan&#8217;s mother Jo Lias said his favourite author, Andy Griffiths, pledged to the crowdfunding campaign to get Aiden overseas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Andy is really lovely and he pledged too,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am so proud of Aedan and he has proved that you can turn something negative into a positive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has a great support team behind him and all his work needs to be proofed and edited really well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing process involved family&#8217;s team effort<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though writing and reading can be hard for the 10-year-old, Aedan said his writing process involved other family members lending a hand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have co-wrote some of my books with my grandfather, my sister, my brother and my awesome mum,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Finny was my first book I wrote, You Can&#8217;t Call Me Dyslexic is one of my favourite books and The Horse Story is about horses that give up but then try again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can use audio books and I can speak into an app that helps me write &#8211; modern-day technology is amazing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 10-year-old dyslexic Brisbane boy has raised money through crowdfunding to travel to the London Book Fair.
