{"id":8032,"date":"2016-06-28T07:29:48","date_gmt":"2016-06-28T07:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/?p=8032"},"modified":"2026-04-27T06:21:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T06:21:25","slug":"hungry-piranha-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dyslexiadaily.com\/blog\/hungry-piranha-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungry Piranhas Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 185%; font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">Here\u2019s another fun 10 minute grammar activity.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">The teacher or parent says\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">\u201cComplete sentences must have a subject, a verb and express a complete thought.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><center><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier;\">In other words they must make sense.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Here\u2019s where the fun begins\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">I\u2019m going to give you an incomplete sentence part\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Then I\u2019m going to add more to it, to make it a complete sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Here we go\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">Because hungry piranhas thrashed<br \/>\non the river\u2019s surface\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Now I\u2019ll complete it\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">Because hungry piranhas thrashed on the river\u2019s surface,<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #1414a6;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\"> Ahmed and Belinda paddled flat-out across the river and straight up on to the river bank.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Now it\u2019s your turn\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 160%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">Because hungry piranhas thrashed on the river\u2019s surface\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Give the students (or kids) a go. Of course the funnier, more detailed the complete sentence is the better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\">Here are some more to try\u2026.. Remember the incomplete sentence part can go at the beginning or at the end (or both) when making a complete sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">\u2026.spilling hot soup down his trousers\u2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">\u2026.to buy a ring for<br \/>\nhis stuck-up fiancee Barbara\u2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><\/center><center><span style=\"color: #0066ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">\u2026.run the risk of running into mean Mr Brown,<br \/>\nwho hated students\u2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p><center><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 165%; font-family: Courier; line-height: 1em;\">\u2026.a blowfly flew straight<br \/>\ninto Mary\u2019s open mouth\u2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%; line-height: 1.5em;\">I would love to be able to share some of the sentences you write, with our readers\u2026.. so email your complete sentences back to me and I will publish some of them next week.
