Hungry Piranhas Attack

Here’s another fun 10 minute grammar activity.
The teacher or parent says……

“Complete sentences must have a subject, a verb and express a complete thought.
In other words they must make sense.”
Here’s where the fun begins…

I’m going to give you an incomplete sentence part….

Then I’m going to add more to it, to make it a complete sentence.

Here we go…

Because hungry piranhas thrashed
on the river’s surface…

Now I’ll complete it…

Because hungry piranhas thrashed on the river’s surface, Ahmed and Belinda paddled flat-out across the river and straight up on to the river bank.

Now it’s your turn…

Because hungry piranhas thrashed on the river’s surface…

Give the students (or kids) a go. Of course the funnier, more detailed the complete sentence is the better.

Here are some more to try….. Remember the incomplete sentence part can go at the beginning or at the end (or both) when making a complete sentence.

….spilling hot soup down his trousers….

….to buy a ring for
his stuck-up fiancee Barbara….

….run the risk of running into mean Mr Brown,
who hated students….

….a blowfly flew straight
into Mary’s open mouth….

I would love to be able to share some of the sentences you write, with our readers….. so email your complete sentences back to me and I will publish some of them next week. If you include your children or student’s first names and ages, I will publish those too.

P.S Here’s a complete sentence from an example above to get you started….

As she lay on the open tail-gate snoring, a blowfly flew straight into Mary’s open mouth tickled her tonsils and flew out again.
